Architecture Entrance Scholarships
Each year several scholarships up to $5000 donated by local architectural firms for incoming students are distributed at the discretion of the Admissions Committee based on academic excellence and anticipation to succeed well in the program. This year, the Architecture program would like to thank Bryce Rositch Architects, Bunting Coady Architects, EMAAR Canada and Ledcor Industries for their generous support to Architecture students. In the past, such firms as Busby Perkins and Will Architects, Chernoff Thompson Architects, Bunting Coady Architects, Henriquez and Partners and Patkau Architects have generously supported this program.
Graduate Support Initiative Awards
The Graduate Support Initiative is a system for funding graduate students through entrance scholarships, multi-year funding packages, tuition awards and scholarship top-ups. The Architecture Admissions Committee will allocate the GSI funding as Entrance Scholarships to a small number of incoming graduate students who show excellent academic merit and exceptional promise. All applicants to the Architecture program will automatically be considered for any given year’s GSI awards; there is no need to submit an application for a GSI award.
Funding may also be awarded to students entering the Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture program.
The Ray Cole and Busby Perkins + Will Entrance Scholarship in Architecture
The $1,000 scholarship will be offered to students entering the Masters of Architecture Program who have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable design and environmental principles and who wish to continue to expand on this expertise area at UBC.

A limited number of Teaching and Research Assistantships are available to Architecture students and usually are assigned to upper level Architecture students.
Department Awards and Scholarships
Each year the Architecture program awards approximately $72,000 for incoming and returning students based on merit. This is distributed by the faculty, and all students are automatically considered.

Opportunities Available for International Students only
Need-based aid for international students is very limited. Canadian government loans and assistance are available only to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
US citizens may be eligible for FAFSA, Stafford or PLUS loans applicable to UBC degree courses.
Employment for international students
Many international students are interested in working or volunteering while they attend UBC. For some students, work experience provides great career preparation, exposure to the Canadian workplace, and a closer connection to the local community. For others, it provides a little extra spending money. Review this website to find out what kinds of work you can do as an international student both on-campus and off-campus.
Commonwealth Scholarship
The Government of Canada offers scholarships as part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP). These scholarships are tenable at Canadian universities only. The Canadian Commonwealth Program is designed to provide opportunities for students of other Commonwealth countries to pursue advanced programs in Canada. The Scholarships are intended for men and women of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make a significant contribution to their own countries on their return from study in Canada.
Other Awards
If you are an American student planning to study at UBC, you can access financial assistance through the Stafford Loans and Federal PLUS Loans programs.
There are many other awards open to non-Canadians, among them exchange fellowships negotiated between Canada and many other countries, and awards made available by different countries for study abroad. You should check these out carefully in your own country.
