Course code:

Term:
January 2012
Current Instructor:

This course complements ARCH 513 and outlines the requirements and functions of the building services - mechanical, electrical and plumbing - with a view of their effective integration into a building design. The course examines some of the major building services options, how they work, their physical and spatial requirements, and develop an appreciation of the impact of the building design on the building services and vice versa. It will examine how building services and control strategies affect energy and utility requirements, how sustainable design options can be integrated into the process building and how performance modeling tools can be used to assist and inform the building design process. A critical emphasis of the course is to understand how the various individual elements work together, interact, and fit physically and thereby permitting the reconciliation of conflicting requirements and the attainment of a more effective overall building design.
