In a moment when design education must confront the realities of climate crisis, colonial legacies, and social inequity, this lecture series offers a critical and generative space for reimagining what design can become. It foregrounds future and alternative configurations of space, material, practice, and knowledge that challenge dominant paradigms in architecture and landscape.
The season begins on September 23 with a faculty and alumni roundtable discussion around working in community, moderated by Mari Fujita. Chris T Cornelius will deliver this year’s Paul Sangha Lecture on October 7. A special musical performance and panel discussion will take place at Ellipsis Cafe on October 27, featuring XANIA XIN LAKA and a panel moderated by Matthew Soules. The series concludes with two celebrated international designers: Marina Tabassum on November 11 and Sara Zewde on November 18.
Most events are free and all are welcome to attend, although some events are ticketed. The Building is Aural Device performance and panel on October 27 is a paid event. Tickets are released one month before the event.
