Work Learn | Graphics + Design Intern (Campus as a Living Lab)

Summer 2026 1 open positions 20 hours per week at $27 to 29/hour

Overview of duties

Working within UBC’s Campus as a Living Lab (CLL) program and external partners, Perkins&Will, QuantoTech and FORM3, this role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of architecture, fabrication, and industrial design. Starting in early May, the student will help roll out a new campus installation of an urban agriculture growing pavilion, documenting the process and creating graphic guidelines that tie into UBC’s broader sustainability goals.

Key Deliverables:
1. Assembly Manual: Observe the materials arriving on-site and work directly with the FORM3 team to design a highly visual assembly manual, including video & image capture of the process.

2. “Sustainable Assembly Playbook”: By highlighting material efficiency and design-for-disassembly, the student’s work will directly support the circular economy and embodied carbon goals in UBC’s Green Building Plan and CAP2030.

3. Technical Paper: Help co-author a brief on the benefits of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA). The goal is to show how prefabrication cuts down on waste and disruption, providing useful data for UBC, the BIA, and City of Vancouver design guidelines, potentially informing future policy (eg. Sustainable Large Development)

4. Knowledge sharing: work with UBC partners and external stakeholders to share results through research showcases, conferences or trade events
