the death and life of suburbia

picture suburbia: wide streets, fenced yards, manicured lawns. now imagine suburbs that have been allowed to grow and change. what happens when we re-appropriate the wasted space produced by urban sprawl and give it back to people? what would happen if we removed the setbacks set by bylaws and up zoned single family residential lots? by activating streets, increasing housing density and diversity, and providing community amenities in residential areas of surrey, bc this project examines the potential for suburbia to turn into a productive, lively landscape. all which would encourage and support rapid densification that surrey is currently experiencing. imagining what would happen if community space was no longer contained to one building but was spread out everywhere for everyone.
