The Journey of George Vancouver
Student
Weirong Li
This project proposes removing the statue of George Vancouver from its current location in front of the Vancouver city hall to its final resting place in Petersham, England. Throughout the journey, the statue will make temporary stops at each places his once visited, each accompanied by a different structure altered from the shipping container that used to transport the statue for customized use. As the statue itself continue onto its journey, the structure is subject to decay and regrowth through mushroom planting and natural decomposition. The removal of the statue is an attempt to revisit our colonial past with a critical eye and the moveement of the statue serves as an opportunity to stinulate new discussions.
