You are here
Design Discovery is a two-week summer program that introduces high-school students, college students, graduates, and second-career professionals to a potential career in design.
If you are considering a career in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, or an allied design discipline, you can get a taste of it here at SALA. Throughout the program, you’ll immerse yourself in the studio culture and experience what education and work are like in the design professions. You will build skills, develop projects for a portfolio, and – most importantly – learn if a career in design is right for you.
Drawing and modeling are critical to help visualize, develop, and communicate your design ideas. You’ll develop foundational skills in both before taking on a more significant final project. SALA faculty members and professionals from Vancouver’s design community will review and critique your final project.
You’ll learn from a SALA faculty member and practitioner. Bill Pechet will teach Design Discovery in 2017. In addition to regularly teaching design studios at all levels at SALA, in his private practice he engages in wide variety of projects ranging from strategic urban planning studies, to residential and retail design, and public art installations.
You’ll also have the chance to learn more about our programs, find out what our faculty are working on, explore architecture and landscapes at UBC, in Vancouver, and go on field trips.
To apply to Design Discovery, complete an online application that will ask you for biographical information and two written statements.
