UBC NOMAS hosts this edition of Apéritif with Vishaan Chakrabarti.

Chakrabarti is the William W. Wurster Dean of the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as the Founder and Creative Director of PAU. He is also the author of the acclaimed book A Country of Cities: A Manifesto for an Urban America. In his over twenty-five years of experience in design, he has led major architecture and urban design projects across the US, including the redevelopment of the Domino Sugar site in Williamsburg, and the effort to save New York’s High Line. 

PAU takes on both commissioned work ands pro-bono social advocacy projects, including ambitious proposals to redesign Penn Station and to ban private vehicles from Manhattan’s streets. 

Chakrabarti holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and dual bachelor’s degrees in art history and engineering from Cornell University. He is a registered architect in the States of New York, Michigan, and Pennsylvania and is registered with NCARB. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, as well as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
