GTA | ARCH 504/DES 321: Architectural History I

Winter 2024 term 2 Up to 3 open positions 120 hours total, approximately 9 hours per week at $37.53/hour

Overview of duties

Attend lectures; Lead an online discussion group for both graduate and undergraduate students on the lecture content and readings; Attend weekly planning meetings; Provide tutorials outside of class (office hours) for both graduate and undergraduate students: Grade undergraduate assignments and quizzes; Coordinate discussions with graduate and undergraduate students on possible paper topics and research methods. There may be an opportunity to devise in-class activities appropriate to lectures and discussion and an option to prepare and present an in-class mini-lecture

Qualifications

Completion of required MArch history-theory sequence or undergraduate degree in architectural or art history or equivalent is required. Will also consider MArch candidate with undergraduate degree in the humanities. Mastery of the course academic material. Ability to help students actively learn. Ability to explain subject matter clearly and logically. Ability to effectively lead discussion groups that facilitate student learning. Ability to effectively assist student learning by enabling different sets of skills, including oral and verbal communications, problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, planning. Some teaching experience preferred.

In the cover letter, please briefly describe the history/theory courses you have taken in architecture or related fields, at SALA (ARCH 504/505/523) or elsewhere. Include the letter grades or marks you received in those classes. Please also propose an activity that engages students in small groups on zoom. The purpose of the imaginary session is to analyze a history/theory reading that includes illustrations (drawings, photographs). How would you design a 30-minute discussion session that could be held with or without yourself present in the breakout room?
