GTA | ARCH 551: Communicating Construction

Summer 2024 Up to 3 open positions 60 hours total, 10 hours per week at $37.53/hour

Overview of duties

Assist students during class time (virtual or in-person, as the course offering this year will be in a hybrid format), review student work, possibly give small tutorial sessions on particular aspects of the software. Review and red-line student drawings, and assist students with software issues as they arise. No marking required. Approximately 25% is in class time and the other outside class time. Note that it will be necessary to fulfill a portion of the total hours in the weeks outside of the course dates to provide feedback for the final assignment whose due date is after the end of the course.

Qualifications

Good knowledge of a CAD program (AutoCAD, VectorWorks or Revit) and a 3D modelling program (Rhino or SketchUp). Familiarity with the preparation of architectural construction documentation, either through previous coursework, or extensive work in an architectural office. Ability to show support, patience and compassion in working with students learning new software, and communicate effectively in full class or one-on-one situations. Mastery of the course academic material. Ability to help students actively learn through explaining subject matter clearly and logically. Ability to effectively lead tutorial sessions that facilitate student learning. Ability to effectively assist student learning by enabling different sets of skills, including oral and verbal communications, problem solving, critical thinking, numeracy, and design synthesis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
