Printer and Plotter Technical Assistant

Winter 2024 terms 1 + 2 2 open positions 300 hours total, Up to 10 hours per week at $22.67/hour

Overview of duties

Successful candidates will be responsible for coordinating and supporting successful outcomes for printing, scanning and plotting for Students, Staff and Faculty for the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. (SALA) Specifically, these positions are responsible for training students on how to use the pay for print interface at UBC in conjunction with SALA’s printing, plotting and scanning equipment and supporting resolution of technical issues related to Student, Faculty and Staff usage of SALA printers, plotters and scanners.
Other duties will include restocking of printing and plotting supplies, general maintenance of printing and plotting equipment, general tidiness of print and plotting work areas, assisting students with how to get refunds and reporting to the Facilities Manager and in some cases to the Vendor (Laser Valley) directly issues relating to performance and repair of SALA printing and plotting machines.

All training required to perform all duties of position described above will be done prior to the start date of position by the SALA Facilities Manager. These Technical Assistants will be supported by the SALA Facilities Manager and UBC IT in the undertaking of these roles. All new employee training will be required to be finished prior to the commencement of their position.

Printer and Plotter Technical Assistants will report directly to the SALA Facilities Manager. They will also be required to work independently once trained in performing the duties described above. Time sheets will be submitted to both SALA Finance and SALA Facility manager on prescribed dates.

Qualifications

Applicants will have a thorough knowledge of software consistent with being a student in a contemporary Architecture program. Previous experience working with printers and plotters, digital interfaces and platforms would be considered assets. Other key characteristics for persons undertaking this position would be that they be personable, approachable, good communication skills and have patience with students whom are working under the pressure of deadlines in high demand times.
