Overview of duties

The Vancouver Summer Program (VSP) is a four-week academic program offered at the
University of British Columbia for cohorts of international students to study at UBC.
The VSP provides the opportunity for cooperating universities to organize groups of
students to take two academic courses in various UBC Faculties while learning about
Canadian practices and culture.
Work Performed – Basic Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Manager, Student Services and Recruitment, the Vancouver
Summer Program (VSP) Assistant will:
• Monitor registration and respond to phone and email inquiries related to the VSP
• Work within a budget to plan and execute social and cultural activities
• Liaise with local design professionals to coordinate guest lectures and site visits
• Work with local vendors to secure: transportation, catering and venue rentals
• Assist with the development and delivery of orientation materials
• Assist with volunteer coordination
• Act as a representative of SALA at coordinator meetings, central activities, and
recruitment events associated with the VSP
• Perform administrative duties such as photocopying, and assisting in maintaining
and stocking supplies
• Assist in record-keeping and participant tracking that supports program
evaluation and reporting
• Assist in any other related activities as required

Qualifications

Open to all year levels, undergraduate or graduate
Skills:
• Demonstrated skills in event planning
• Excellent communication skills: professional email/phone correspondence, public
speaking and presentation proficiency
• Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds/cultures
• Demonstrates organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrates a willingness to learn and take on initiative
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with students, volunteers and
staff
• Sensitivity to issues affecting international students and their transition to Canada
• Knowledge of UBC’s services and resources for students and campus life
• Familiar with common software programs
Available to work flexible hours occasionally
