Located in Mount Pleasant, this project focuses on building a community that thrives on a circular economy. Through designing moments of sociability in everyday rituals, it can create strong social connections through an informal social economy. The design uses visibility as a tool to create opportunities for comfortable connections with others, providing glimpses into the lives of those around. It includes a residential co-housing building, and a popular Japanese and Korean supermarket. On the most prominent corner of the site is the recycling centre to highlight and acknowledge it’s significance in the economy – directly linked to a re-use it market. All these programs are intersected by a pedestrian boulevard that flanks each of the buildings. The programs at grade drawing people in from nearby streets to a central social space, encouraging a mix of people as they go about their daily lives.
