The School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus, invites applications for part-time Sessional Lecturers to teach the courses below. 

LARC 504 Landscape Architecture Design Studio IV (Regional Studio) (September to December 2025)

LARC 504 is a core studio in the Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program. Projects in this studio demand intellectually rigorous and creative applications of ecological design theory, knowledge, and processes. Students will begin to engage and develop proficiency in larger issues and scales, designing for complex natural and built systems, incorporating relevant theory and analysis into creative, integrated design responses.

The position involves co-teaching with a full-time SALA faculty member in preparing and teaching studio two afternoons a week on Tuesday and Friday.  The course runs from September 2 to December 5, 2025 with final reviews happening the following week. The instructor will prepare assignments, study materials, organize internal and external reviews and pinups, and provide one-on-one guidance in design development. It is the responsibility of the instructor to maintain an interactive and inclusive learning environment. The instructor will need to be available to students outside of normal classroom hours to answer questions. The instructor is responsible to maintain records of grades and to submit final grades in a timely fashion to the Department office.

Applicants for this position will have post-secondary training in Landscape Architecture and a record that provides evidence of teaching effectiveness or interest in post-secondary teaching. Applicants should have a record of professional and applied experience in climate adaptation and should have knowledge of or experience with contemporary climate responsive design, community engagement practices, and ecological theory. The successful applicant will have completed a Masters’ degree in Landscape Architecture before teaching starts. Preference will be given to those with a PhD, or in a relevant PhD program. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills and working knowledge of modern teaching methods and supporting tools.

The anticipated salary for this position is $17,250 for the period of appointment.

ARCH 505 | DES 322 Topics in Architectural History II, 1900-Present (January to April 2026)

ARCH 505 | DES 322 is a core course in the Masters of Architecture (MARCH) and Bachelor of Design (BDES) Programs in which, through an in-depth study of a particular thematic topic, students will engage with the latest research and approaches to understanding the history of architecture as embedded within cultural, political, and economic contexts. Students will analyze and discuss assigned readings in smaller groups and produce, individually, a variety of written assignments. Additional information here.

The position involves preparing and giving lectures and a tutorial every week during the second term for one section. Lectures and tutorials are 90 minutes in duration. The course runs from January 6 to April 9, 2026. The instructor will prepare tutorials, assignments, and exams. It is the responsibility of the instructor to maintain an interactive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.  The instructor will also need to be available to students outside of normal classroom hours to answer questions. The instructor is responsible to maintain records of grades and to submit final grades in a timely fashion to the Department office. The instructor will also supervise and evaluate up to three (3) Teaching Assistants at the graduate level.

Applicants for this position will have post-secondary training experience and a record that provides evidence of teaching effectiveness as an instructor or teaching assistant in a field relevant to the course in question. The successful applicant will have a PhD in the history of architecture, or in a relevant PhD program. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant teaching experience in architectural history courses in M. Arch. programs. Candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills and working knowledge of modern teaching methods and supporting tools.

The anticipated salary for this position is $12,500 for the period of appointment.
