Larissa Tobacco’s final project for this summer’s Design Discovery program, a structure she calls a “living gazebo.”

UBC Applied Science has featured Design Discovery 2021 student Larissa Tobacco, who shared her experience in the two-week summer program. Larissa, a first-year Urban Forestry student, is the first recipient of a new Indigenous scholarship to attend Design Discovery.

Coincidentally, two donors independently hit on the same idea: to help SALA build a base of diverse talent, specifically Indigenous talent. The Yosef Wosk Family Foundation generously contributed to the Design Discovery program, while the Architecture Foundation of British Columbia (AFBC) supported Larissa’s scholarship.
