2022 MArch graduate Jon Ackerley has been recognized with a Canadian Architect Student Award of Excellence. Jon was SALA’s nominee for the award, selected from the 2021/22 architecture graduate projects. Supervised by Associate Professor Blair Satterfield, Jon’s project Subindustria explores a proposed bio-mechanical community that flattens landscapes of consumption and landscapes of production. Architect and juror Peter Hargraves stated Jon “…clearly had the courage to explore a future, based on present trajectories, that point towards a dystopia which seems disagreeable from the perspective of the spirit of humanity.”
The Canadian Architect Student Award of Excellence are awarded to final-year projects by Canadian students at an accredited school of architecture. Nominees are selected by the schools, and advanced to the jury selected by Canadian Architect. The winning projects are featured in the December issue of Canadian Architect.
