Recent MArch graduate Sarah Klym has been recognized with the Canadian Architect Student Award of Excellence for 2020. Her graduate project Machine Ecologies, supervised by Thena Tak, was the SALA submission for the annual award for students in their final year of architectural studies.
In her thesis, Klym proposes a speculative future in which different kinds of machines support the health of hybrid, complex agricultural landscapes. Juror Michael Moxam was impressed with the artistry of the project: “This project tells an incredibly poetic story about the relationship between machines and ecology. The drawings are stunning. The longer you look at them the more you see.”
