WL S24 | Venice Biennale Social Media & Communications Support
Overview of duties
The student will provide social media and communications support to the campaign of Architects Against Housing Alienation, who were the curators of the premier international architecture exhibition in Venice, Italy from May – November 2023. Organized by six curators (three are UBC faculty), the exhibition brought in forty-five organizations and over a hundred individual collaborators on ten teams from across Canada to address the current housing crisis. The exhibition proposal, Not For Sale!, was selected in a competitive two-stage process by the Canada Council for the Arts, and is supported by a budget of $500,000 which is managed through UBC SALA. Though the exhibition in Venice has closed, the work is being re-presented in Milan and plans are in the works to bring the exhibition to Vancouver and Toronto in the coming year.
Tasks and duties include: Implementing social media campaign following provided instructions from social media plan (daily postings and timely response to commenters); maintaining organized files for social media campaign through website and MS Teams; ongoing timely communications with curatorial team and with graphic design and web design teams; assisting in creation of posts from provided visual and textual material including translations (translation by others); communicating with creators of visual content and Canada Council staff as required related to social media campaign; proofreading and revisions of social media posts; managing of communication through social media following guidelines set by curatorial team and social media campaign advisors.
Qualifications
Graduate student in SALA, any year or program. Highly organized, professional and timely in communications, self-starter, graphic/visual skills, knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, MS Teams, basic web experience; experience with implementing social media campaigns is a benefit.
