What do we hope for the future of Vancouver? A walkable, liveable, urban utopia. But how do we accommodate our ever-growing population? Skyscrapers. Competing to reach highest into the sky, a monument to modernity, trapped in a struggle for the future’s most valuable resource: space. As our living grow in number, so too do our dead. But as the sky becomes ever more the plane of the living, how do we stay connected to the earth: the plane of the departed? Urban Necropia aims to harmonize the living and the dead realms of Vancouver, filling in spaces overlooked by the growing city. The spaces beneath our feet. In the heart of downtown, a busy Necropia will mirror the hustle and bustle of the street above, periodically opening into the living city. A walkable, liveable, die-able, urban Necropia.
