Environment and Urban Form introduces theory, history, research, literature, and case studies related to environmentally oriented urban design. In this course, you will develop a systems view of the environment and sustainability in relationship to the urban form, and learn to critique the processes, practices, and outcomes of city building through the lens of environment and sustainability.
You will learn to recognize and evaluate the interactions between the built and natural environment, and develop a verbal and visual vocabulary to assess and represent issues of environment, sustainability, and physical layout and design of cities. Using Vancouver as laboratory, you will produce an original field-based case study of instructive urban form and environmental elements and patterns in the city.
