The collaborative project is led by Russell Myers Ross, former Chief (Nits’il’in) of Yunesit’in, a Tsilhqot’in Nation community, and SALA associate professor John Bass.
Unlike typical on-reserve housing, the prototype will be well made. In its layout, form and construction, the prototype is functionally, symbolically, and economically rooted in its place. Materially and technically, it responds to the increasing threat of climate change; in particular, wildfire, smoke, and rising temperatures.
One of the two videos is an overview of the project, produced by UBC Studios. The other is an animated and narrated walkthrough of the design, and was produced by Myers, Bass, and MArch students.
The project was featured in The Narwhal in September 2025.
The project has been funded by IC-Impacts, the UBC Community-University Engagement Support Fund, and the Real Estate Foundation of BC.
